Use Paper Clips to Create Wire Jewelry

Supplies:

  • 2 paper clips
  • pliers
  • beads with a large enough hole to fit onto the wire
  • Masking tape
Unbend the paperclip:

To start you'll need a straight length of wire. While you can unbend a paperclip with your fingers you'll get a straighter line if you use the flat part of pliers.

To prevent any nicks on the wire trying covering it in a layer of masking tape.

Once your wire is straight we will move on to curling the end.

Curling the end:

Use the rounded part of your jewelry pinch the end of the wire. Curl it in creating a little circle. To continue the spiral you can keep curling in this manner or grab the curl with the flat part of the pliers and roll it up.

Finish the spiral:

you need to create a loop on your spiral so that it can be attached to the rest of your earring. You can use this method to create a lot of spirals to use as charms or simple as earring dangles.

Bend the wire back away from the spiral. Then bend the wire again to form the loop clip the wire with the sharp edge of your jewelry pliers and curl in the edge of your loop

Make a beaded wire:

You can also use a paperclip to make a beaded length of wire with looped ends.

Loop the end of the wire by curling it over. string on as many beads as you like but make sure that you leave at least a 1/2" at the end, curl this last bit of wire to create another loop.

The end loops will not only keep the beads from falling off but can also be used as links to attach other wires.

Put it all together:

Use the loops that you made on your spiral and beaded wire pieces to chain together your earrings. Of course you can use any combination of beaded wire and spirals for your creations.

Add an earring hook to the top loop.
